- A kaiju movie inside of a children's story.
- this movie was something I never expected to see in this franchise. It was about the life of a kid named Ichiro daydreaming about adventures with Minira on Monster Island. Ichiro and Minira are the same character, as well as Gabara the monster and Gabara the Bully.
- They recycled scenes from previous movies.
- such as Ebirah, Horror of the Deep & Son of Godzilla. And they just boosted up the saturation a bit to make it seem to look different...but it's the same thing. I don't mind it, it's honestly very clever. And the movie itself was really fun to watch, cause it's very different from any of the movies prior to it. It's got an original story within the series.
- Lesson Learned.
- This movie was basically for kids, but I very much enjoyed it because the fantasy of Ichiro on the Monster Island still sort of reflected the reality that he was in.
- Minira was him.
- Gabara was his Bully, and also maybe the Bank Robbers.
- Godzilla teaching Minira how to use the Atomic Breath, and telling him that he should fight his own battles so that he could have his own stories to tell, was a way to teach Ichiro to be strong and courageous towards the group of bullies who always cross his path walking home from school.
- Easter Eggs.
- the toy-maker had a toy flying saucer--kind of like a UFO--in his apartment/workshop, signifying the existence of the Xiliens and/or the Kilaaks in this universe.
- Ichiro also had a toy Godzilla inside of his closet, which means that toys based off of the Kaiju are being sold around Japan/the world. Makes sense, given that in past movies, there were human antagonists who basically just wanted to profit off of these monsters.
- A sense of World-building.
- The kids know that these monsters exist, which means that their parents tell them the folk tales, or that news about Godzilla and the other monsters are common thing to see...and also every kaiju disaster ever made in the cities are also an apparent way for these kids to be wary of the Kaijus' existence.
