Lord of the Flies by William Golding | Book Review

Written: January 3, 2019.

This is the tenth (10th) installment of a book review series, based off of the books I was able to read within 2018.

Book discussed: Lord of the Flies by William Golding.

It's my first time to encounter the word allegory. Lord of the Flies by William Golding is a classic story. It is also an allegory. One I did not notice, until I did my research on the book.

I'm going to have to read this one again some time in the future, because at first reading, I didn't really understand the story. I thought it was going to be a psychedelic journey, it turned out to be something quite more symbolic. The symbolism in this story wasn't quite noticeable. In fact, I'd go far as to say that even though it only took me less than a week to read this, I didn't understand what I was reading. Because the writing wasn't really that good.

The boys in the story felt a bit two-dimensional. Their dialogue didn't seem appropriate for their age. Well, except maybe Piggy's, but that's about it. I wanna read this again and try to look at the symbolic meanings within it. Hopefully they show themselves to me. Cause I wanna enjoy this book as much as every one else, but maybe I wasn't able to because I rushed the process of reading it. I didn't delve deep into the inner-workings of the author's mind, or what the story was trying to tell me. It was only at the end when I realized that every little thing that happened in the story was a much bigger thing juxtaposed to reality.

I bought my copy of the book at Manila International Book Fair...that's all I have to say about that. I don't really have anything else to say about this book.
